Marriott Modern Design Inspired by Javanese History

0

YOGYAKARTA Marriott Hotel, the first Marriott branded hotel in Indonesia, has opened in the heart of the cultural city, offering guests the opportunity to travel brilliantly by enjoying the sophisticated spaces and experiences of an internationally branded, superbly designed hotel in the city where traditions meet modern life.

The hotel’s 347 guest rooms and suites feature Marriott Modern styled decor with Javanese-inspired accents and inviting views of the pools or city, complemented with premium amenities, marble bathrooms, and 24-hour room service; whilst Suites and Club Rooms offer exclusive access to the M-Club, the largest club lounge in town. Guests can unwind in the Exercise Room, Quan Spa and outdoor pools, and savour local and international cuisines at the three creative dining venues. For shoppers, the hotel is conveniently attached to the largest mall in the city, whilst business travellers can stay connected with free Wi-Fi and convenient workstations. Several meeting rooms and pre-function areas are available to host business meetings and intimate events and the 1,870m2pillar-less ballroom is the largest in the city.

Marriott Modern Design meets local inspiration – Designed by Jakarta based design firm Domisilium Studio, the 347-room hotel reflects local Javanese culture throughout its interior spaces, drawing design inspiration from the historical Taman Sari, a former royal garden of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. The elements can be seen on the column and weaving details throughout the public areas of the hotel. The reception background utilizes a parametric design to evoke the water ripples of Taman Sari’s pavilions and pools with a similar concept applied to the ceiling details above the bar area in The Lounge, brought to life with clear white acrylic and sheer fabric. Throughout the hotel, the designers have used a calming and neutral color palette of browns, greys, blacks and whites and the modern, open spaces create a harmonious balance with marble, wood and stone.

“The design brief was to ‘Design Brilliantly’, to create a modern, contemporary hotel that reflects local Javanese traditions and values,”said Alain Rigodin, General Manager of Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel. “Through the use of the Kawung batik motif and the contemporary reimagining of local materials, textures, shapes, and colors, the results resonate with the new generation of traveler. Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel is the first 5-star hotel to open in the city for over 10 years and the modern, contemporary styling throughout sets a new standard.”

A central theme throughout the hotel is Kawung batik, one of the oldest ‘forbidden batiks’. The guestroom corridor carpet features a custom designed Kawung batik pattern inspired by flower petals falling on water. The Kawung pattern also appears on the headboards in the guestrooms, mimicking flower petals scattered by the breeze, and as metal die-cut features in the elevator lobby and guestroom signage.

Throughout the hotel, the design incorporates cool and soothing colours and textures. Marble in shades of white, grey and black invoke the essence of water and balance the warmth of the wood finishes prevalent in the interior spaces. The energetic atmosphere of Yogyakarta Kitchen is enhanced by the use of wood finishes with bold characters and vibrant Javanese-styled fabrics, whilst the more relaxed ambience in The Lounge and M Lounge are reflected in a sophisticated palette with light wood veneer on the furniture balancing with the darker wood floor.

The concept for Taman Sari Bar & Grill was a semi-outdoor area that extends to the outdoor pools with a tropical lounge feeling that remains true to its Javanese setting. The designers specified more textured materials to emphasize the indoor-outdoor feel and added blue geometric floor tiles to give a batik-like expression to the space.

The designers collaborated with a local weaving specialist to develop a unique pattern for the hotel’s M Lounge. Synthetic rattan strips are combined in different scales and colors to transform a simple pattern into a more sophisticated design, whilst the use of a neutral color palette incorporating black, grey and white adds a modern and refined feeling throughout.

The lobby of Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel was designed to be welcoming and encourage interaction between guests by avoiding traditional hotel lobby seating arrangements. The custom designed semi-circular sofa has a functional built-in table and mimics the circular Kawung batik inspired skylight, juxtaposing with the horizontal and vertical lines that dominate the reception area.

Creative destination that inspires brilliance – A city boasting diverse historical influences, Yogyakarta isoften considered the heartland of Javanese culture. From contemporary cityscapes to centuries old monuments, the city is becoming an increasingly popular destination for business and leisure travelers. It has a reputation as a shopper’s paradise with bustling markets and avenues, where guests can purchase paintings and artworks as well as handicrafts created by Java’s finest artisans, who excel in batiks, silver and leather works.

“When visitors come to Yogyakarta they can easily find a balance between business and pleasure,”continued Alain Rigodin.“You don’t have to make a choice. You can come for business and then you can mix in leisure because of Yogyakarta’s incredibly rich and diverse nature. From a cultural point of view, there are the temples, the Palace, the Batiks and the Javanese dancers whilst the food in the city is wonderful. I always recommend visitors try Gudeg, a traditional sweet jackfruit dish, or ayam goreng kalasan, which is chicken made with coconut milk, garlic and coriander. Our friendly team is always available to help organise expeditions.”

The city is the gateway to some of ancient Asia’s grandest wonders, including the great 9th century Hindu and Buddhist temples of Prambanan and Borobudur, together with their subsidiary candis (temples) and shrines. The ornate 18th-century royal complex, or kraton, encompasses the still-inhabited Sultan’s Palace and numerous open-air pavilions that host classical Javanese dance shows and concerts of gamelan music, characterized by gongs, chimes and plucked string instruments.

With a new international airport slated to open next year, Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel’s ideal location makes it the perfect base for visitors to the city. The hotel is directly connected to the largest shopping mall and entertainment centre in central Java and just 20 minutes from bustling Malioboro Street, where guests can explore handicraft shopping stalls, street food and restaurants.

Whether you are looking to explore with minimal spending or want to treat yourself to some of the finer things in life, we’ve put together some itinerary options that will give you a small taste of the best the city has to offer.

Day 1

Tom & Serg

Breakfast

  • Save: While there are a plethora of small Indian cafeterias dotted around the city, for a cheap and cheerful, simple breakfast that will only set you back AED10-15 (IDR 3,700-55,500) head to Raju Omelet. This Dubai favourite serves a variety of Indian street food alongside delicious cups of tea in a cute café environment – and all at very wallet-friendly prices.
  • Spend: Well-loved Al Quoz haunt Tom & Serg has become something of a breakfast institution, with its ever-changing menu of healthy and wholesome dishes with a unique twist – offering up everything from smashed avocado on toast to Vietnamese breakfast baos. Couple this with stellar coffee and freshly-made baked goods lovingly crafted in-house and you’ll see why this place has become a fast favourite for locals and tourists alike.
  • Splurge: With its beautiful light interiors, the rotation of fresh and flakey items churned out of their in-house bakery, and selection of high-quality, beautifully-presented breakfast items, starting your day at La Serre will make you feel as though you’ve been transported to a sun- drenched Paris in the summertime. It’s no wonder that it often has queues snaking out the door.

Morning Activity

  • Save: Take a little tour of the Dubai Creek via an Abra Crossing, where you can ride in a traditional boat that glides across the water for a mere AED1 (IDR 3,700)! Once you’re done, head to the souks in the Al Fahidi area and take your time perusing the colourful offerings, or even snap up a bargain.
  • Spend: Check out The Dubai Frame, Dubai’s jaw-dropping new landmark that offers stunning views of both old and new Dubai in a building boasting spectacular architecture. It only costs AED50 (IDR 185,000) to enter for adults (and AED20/IDR 74,000 per child from 3-12 years old, while children under three and the elderly enter for free). Don’t forget to check out the museum!
  • Splurge: Make sure you’re in full holiday relaxation mode, by treating yourself to a massage at one of the city’s many spas! From the Hammam Experience at Talise Spa at Zabeel Saray on the Palm Jumeirah, to the rose petal-infused massages at the Saray Spa at the JW Marriott, there’s plenty to choose from with the promise to leave you blissed-out by lunch.
Abra Ride

Lunch

  • Save: It may be simply named, but whether you’re on a tight budget or you just want to grab a quick bite from somewhere that’s on the go, why not pick up a shawarma from one of the many Eat & Drink Restaurant outlets around town? The restaurant has been in the city for decades and is a familiar sight to many residents – even better, a tasty shawarma will only set you back AED5 (IDR 18,500).
  • Spend: With such an idyllic atmosphere – the beautiful garden features swathes of white, gauzy drapery and gorgeous blue benches that are reminiscent of lazy days in the Greek Cyclacic Islands – the Arabian Tea House is a hidden gem of the Al Fahidi district, offering food at a reasonable price and an excellent tea selection.
  • Splurge: One of the most iconic restaurants in town, At.Mosphere at the Burj Khalifa also offers one of the city’s most stunning – and highest – views. While it’s great for dinner, why not consider it for a luxurious lunch? If you’re looking to make the most of lunch while treating yourself to a stellar view and high-end meal and budget isn’t a concern, this is the place for you!
Al Fahidi Historical District

Afternoon Activity

  • Save: Brush up on your history and knowledge of local culture by exploring what the Al Fahidi Historical District has to offer. There is plenty to see, learn and do at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, with the Coffee Museum and the Dubai Museum just down the road.
  • Spend: Beat the afternoon heat by heading to the new VR Park at The Dubai Mall, where you can enjoy 18 virtual reality experiences at different thrill levels, from dune bashing in the desert to encountering wild creatures (some that will leave your heart racing!) and even scaling a building. Entry to the park is free, and each experience costs AED15-45 (IDR 55,500-166,500), so you can pick and choose experiences pending what the wallet will allow.
  • Splurge: Head to one of the UAE’s amazing amusement parks, such as IMG Worlds of Adventure, or Dubai Parks and Resorts featuring Motiongate, Bollywood Parks and Legoland (or why not visit all three of the last ones with a Dubai Parks and Resorts multi-pass!). Here, you’ll be transported into a fantasy land of fun and entertainment for the entire family.
IMG Worlds – Velociraptor

Dinner

  • Save: One of Jumeirah’s most well-loved and longstanding seafood institutions, Bu Qtair restaurant is a must-try. It’s the very definition of cheap and cheerful – they only have two key options, but their fried fish and fried shrimp are simply epic – and hardly make a dent in the budget as well.
  • Spend: It’s not often that you’ll be able to enjoy a to-die-for steak dinner at around AED300 (IDR 1,110,000) for two people, but that’s exactly what you’ll get at Le Relais de l’Entrecote at Downtown Dubai. Located on the beautiful Emaar Boulevard with the beauty of Downtown Dubai around you, this famous restaurant has been transported to the city straight from Paris and is famous for its delicious steak frites with secret sauce, for which you’ll get not one but two servings. Twice as nice.
  • Splurge: Dubai has no shortage of fine dining options, but considering how many international awards it’s won, La Petite Maison is a must-visit – this French restaurant’s food is to-die-for, the service is impeccable, the beverage list is exceptional, and it makes for a beautiful evening in the DIFC art district.

The acrobatic feats of its performers, the original music, and the spectacular set design will leave you truly wowed.

Evening Activity

  • Save: Take a walk along Dubai Marina and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city (and some of its most beautiful evening views) entirely for free – and walk off your dinner while you’re at it! Bonus: It can be uniquely romantic, and if you’re inspired to, there are plenty of places to stop at and grab a night cap along the way.
  • Spend: If you’ve ever wanted to watch a movie in an environment that feels like dinner theatre, why not catch one at the Guy Fieri Kitchen & Bar and Dine-In Cinema at Jebel Ali Recreation Club? It’s also a licensed venue so you can just enjoy a drink there if you have overindulged at dinner!
  • Splurge: Dubai’s jaw-dropping original show, La Perle by Dragone, is an absolute must-see for both tourists and residents alike. The acrobatic feats of its performers, the original music, and the spectacular set design will leave you truly wowed.

Day 2

Breakfast

  • Save: For an affordable breakfast that boasts large portion sizes, and organic, local produce wherever possible, head to the Surf House Dubai, where breakfast is kept casual but the food quality (and smiles!) are taken seriously.
  • Spend: Clinton St. Baking Company is famous for its stacks of incredible pancakes, and its fried chicken and waffles that feature on the all-day breakfast menu – and if neither of those float your boat, the egg-based dishes will leave your mouth watering too. Bonus: Everything here is also organic and of the best quality.
  • Splurge: The Farm at Al Barari is arguably one of Dubai’s most beautiful settings in which to grab breakfast, and while it may cost you a little bit more to get out there since it’s not in the centre of town, it’s absolutely worth it. The beauty of the incredible garden and lake behind it, not to mention the quality and freshness of the food, will leave you glowing inside out.
Legoland Water Park

Morning Activity

  • Save: Rent a stand-up paddleboard from the Surf House Dubai for just AED80 (IDR 300,000) and head onto the water for a light workout that also promises you one of the best views of the Burj Al Arab – directly from the water – and some unforgettable holiday snaps on the beach.
  • Spend: The Burj Khalifa isn’t just beautiful from the outside – it’s also absolutely worth seeing from the inside and heading into the building is a memorable experience for the viewing deck alone. Ticket prices for At The Top range from AED175 (IDR 640,000) to AED525 (IDR 1.9 million) depending on which package you choose, how old the guest is, and how you book (online or offline).
  • Splurge: A visit to Dubai wouldn’t be complete without the chance to indulge in a little sunbathing, and there is nowhere more luxurious to do this than at The Terrace at the Burj Al Arab. The venue and its two stunning infinity pools is now open to non-guests, with a day pass rate starting from AED1800 (IDR 6.6 million) per person.

Go for dinner, and we suspect you’ll be tempted to stay for some evening beverages afterwards.

Lunch

  • Save: One of every Dubai resident’s go-to’s, Zaatar w Zeit restaurants are found all over town and are a quick, cheap, and easy way to pick up a delicious (and relatively healthy) meal.
  • Spend: Head to Jones the Grocer for a tasty, healthy, and delicious meal that uses the best and freshest ingredients they can get their hands on, in a glamorous café setting that goes far beyond the average.
  • Splurge: Consistently voted one of Dubai’s most romantic restaurants, Pierchicoffers amazing over-water views and the chance to enjoy the finest in high-quality seafood. Book yourself in for lunch and you’ll even be transported from the main hotel reception to the restaurant’s pier on a private buggy, for the ultimate in peaceful, above-water dining. It’ll almost feel like you’re in the Maldives.
Jones the Grocer

Afternoon Activity

  • Save: Rent a car (many companies offer options for AED60-80—IDR 220,000-300,000—a day) and drive out to Hatta for the afternoon. It’s only an hour away, and once there, it’s abundant in stunning natural beauty. You can hire kayaks or paddle out onto the water for less than AED100 (IDR 370.000) and take a picnic with you for when hunger strikes. Don’t forget the camera!
  • Spend: Curious about what it might be like to experience a rainforest in the desert? Head to The Green Planet, for just AED95 (IDR 350,000) for adults and AED70 (IDR 250,000) for kids, you’ll get to explore three storeys of this green paradise, home to more than 3,000 different flora and fauna. There’s plenty of interesting educational facts to be found also – and the natural light is excellent for a selfie.
  • Splurge: If you’ve ever wanted to check “skiing in the desert” off your bucket list, a visit to Ski Dubai is a must-do. If you’re already an experienced skier or snowboarder, you can rent the equipment and just hit the slopes, otherwise if you’d like a lesson, you can book in an instructor to teach you the ropes. You don’t even need to have packed your gear, either – you can rent literally everything you need, or if you’re keen, you can buy some to take home with you.
Bollywood Parks Dubai

Dinner

  • Save: Ravi Restaurant is one of Dubai’s most famous destinations for Pakistani food, yet it’s not at all a costly one. The food here is delicious, affordable, and always reliable. It’s a must-try.
  • Spend: Peruvian food has found firm footing in the Dubai dining scene, and there are few better places to enjoy this cuisine than at Coya at the Four Seasons Jumeirah. Not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere of this restaurant is celebrated by all those who visit – and the décor practically begs for an Instagram photo. Go for dinner, and we suspect you’ll be tempted to stay for some evening beverages afterwards.
  • Splurge: Dubai has a penchant for Asian-inspired fine dining, and Zuma is one of the city’s must- visit venues if you’re a fan of Japanese or Asian food. Not only is their sushi simply unforgettable, their miso black cod has made the restaurant famous, their drinks list is spectacular, and the rest of its menu is equally as impressive. It’s no wonder this place has won so many international awards over the years.
Motiongate

Evening Activity

  • Save: The Dubai Fountain at the Dubai Mall is amongst the city’s best attractions, and not only are the world-famous, unique, choreographed displays held during regular intervals throughout each evening, but they’re also free for everyone in the area to enjoy.
  • Spend: Dubai is famous for its beach clubs, and they’re not just covetable destinations during the daytime. Heading to one for a few post-dinner drinks in the evening typically promises an excellent evening of people watching, dancing, and good tunes, and two of the best places to enjoy this are Zero Gravity and Nikki Beach, both with mid-to upscale crowds who are well dressed but there to enjoy a good time.
  • Splurge: The Dubai Opera has made waves since it first opened its doors, and for good reason. Not only has it brought some of the world’s best attractions to the city, offering a truly memorable way to spend an evening, but it’s also a great place to grab a drink (or a bite, if you’re still hungry) with award-winning restaurant Sean Connolly at Dubai Opera having made its way onto the list of the city’s best venues.

For a quiet escape within the heart of the city, The Conrad Dubai, Anantara The Palm, and the Waldorf Astoria The Palm, are all little pockets of sheer tranquillity nestled within minutes of the nearby buzz.

Stay and Sleep

  • Save: Set right in the heart of Dubai’s historic Al Fahidi district, just steps away from some of the city’s best attractions, from Dubai Museum, to the Creek and the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (not to mention within walking distance of a metro station), the Orient Guest House is a tranquil – and affordable – hideaway. This little boutique-style guesthouse has 10 rooms decorated in a traditional Arabian style, and the entire house feels like a home from a bygone age – complete with a majlis area and courtyard for weary travellers to relax in. Nearby, the XVA Hotel offers a similar feel with a more artistic slant – it’s connected to a gallery – whereas if you’re looking to stay in the busier parts of the city, the Rove Hotels are an excellent option that offer contemporary surrounds at affordable prices in key areas across Dubai.
  • Spend: Whether you’re looking for beach vibes, city living, or a spot of tranquillity, Dubai has it all – and there’s no shortage of hotels to choose from. If you’re looking to stay beachside, Fairmont The Palm, Jumeirah Al Naseem, and The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi are all excellent choices, whereas those seeking a stay in the busier parts of the city wouldn’t go wrong with the Vida Downtown, La Ville Hotel & Suites or The Address Dubai Marina. Katharine Pooley | Journey By Design

Explore the process and inspirations behind nineteen of her interior design projects

Foreword by Janet Jackson, Text by Jennifer Goulding

British designer Katharine Pooley is proud to present her first book in collaboration with Assouline – Journey By Design. Featuring nineteen of her interior design projects, which display a variety of designs from properties all over the world, this book is a showcase of how her sophisticated, sumptuous interiors are inspired by a lifelong zest for adventure. Katharine has travelled to over 150 countries and has worked on hundreds of commissions across the globe, ranging from 300 to 100,000 square meters.

“Katharine Pooley’s book is a testimony to beauty. Her vision is never superficial; it’s deeply emotional”, says Janet Jackson, a published author, dancer, businesswoman, and philanthropist, and one of the best-selling artists of all time. Katharine is also described as a “wonderfully gifted woman driven by the need to create beauty in everything she touches”.

From the rustic country charm of Forter Castle in the Scottish Highlands, to a contemporary beach villa on the Palm Islands in Dubai, to the golden-red tones of a private residence in Doha, Qatar, Katharine explores the creative process and diverse inspirations behind nineteen of these inimitable spaces. Each project highlights Katharine’s expert attention to detail which shines in any setting, and the very finest craftmanship from the countless multicultural influences she has taken in during her extensive travels. Katharine has no signature style in designs. She believes that creating a home is an intimate process that requires trust, listening to individuals and delivering a clients’ vision to make their “dreams come true”. Below are some examples of her renowned design projects.

Pied-à-terre, Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London

Like other projects, many of Katharine’s projects are for repeat clients, such as this lavish pied- à-terre in London’s Mayfair. Inspired by the building’s Art Deco architecture, Katharine added in a luxury touch to this apartment – with strong lines, maple and walnut timbers in high gloss finishes, Italian marbles and inlaid bronze details to create a look that is masculine yet glamourous. The entrance hall is complemented with a few splendid pieces, such as the hand-gilded chandelier that adds an extra layer of opulence, while the contemporary colour palette and accessories bring a more modish accent to the home.

Private Residence, Kuwait

Located in a residential area of central Kuwait, this four-floor property belongs to a young couple and their four children. Although this is Katharine’s longest assignment to date, she enjoyed working on this project as she was able to showcase the artefacts and antiques her clients had lovingly collected while travelling in the Far East. Katharine was inspired by the places and materials she admired while living in Asia as was able to integrate these influences to the overall design. She paid particular attention to the proportions and details of the cornices, doors, skirting boards and furniture to create a feeling of grandeur and harmony of the whole.

West Bay Villa, Doha, Qatar

The villa is located on a quiet residential street in the West Bay neighborhood of Doha. The owner of this villa had been educated in the United States and he very much enjoys travelling. Katharine’s inspiration came from all over the world. She enjoyed designing a masculine living space for the client, along with a feminine majalis for the owner’s wife. Before carrying out this project, Katharine spent a lot of time in understanding the family and each of their personalities. Each bedroom in this villa is designed to reflect the character of the individual. The result is a vibrant blend of cultures and traditions realized in the finest materials, and precisely tailored to the needs and desires of the client and his family.

Breaking The Globals Stigma of Indonesia’s Fashion Testament

0

The fashion industry as a whole is dull, boring, and outdated. The overwhelming lack of originality in this industry is worrying as it continues to spin in an endless circle from season to season. Consumers are constantly lied to by these self — proclaimed ‘high fashion houses’ producing clothes with the cheapest possible materials to be sold at exorbitant prices.

These issues were what brought us to create L’on. Helmed by an eighteen-year old visionary who previously has never had any formal training, experience, furthermore education in design, has set himself on an embarking journey to convey his ideology through the brand.

L’on approaches fashion through various unorthodox methods in order to deliver our brand’s dark signature aesthetic. These methods incorporate many hours of research, product and material development, and other signature processes exclusively available to our brand, in which this guarantees that every product has their own unique characteristics.

Our design team is heavily influenced by their singular perceptions of art which portrays individuality consistently throughout the collection, constructed together creating a cohesive thematically synchronized work of art.

Setting a new standard has always been the brand’s top priority, from months of continuous sourcing to procure the sufficient materials in order to craft the best possible garments to form a beautiful collection. L’on maximizes Indonesia’s natural resources and expertise in order to obtain the best possible handcrafted details for our pieces. Consistency is one major key point in our brands development, not only we produce clothing at the highest quality, we are willing to go the extra mile and spend time, effort and resources to ensure our customers receive their money’s worth.

In a span of fifteen years L’on sees itself as a fully functional and world recognize atelier and fashion house firmly established in all the major cities of the world. With this, the plan is to create multifunctional production houses across the globe as an effort to increase the global standard on fashion, as well as to help the global community by providing sustainable employment. In an effort to help a worldwide economic problem, we believe through a strong CSR we can help to give back to society.

To achieve the goals that have been set out, every brand has its beginnings and for L’on the start of this revolutionary movements will commence on the 27th of June 2018 through what we believe would be the greatest fashion show that Indonesia has ever seen.

Paramount Miami Worldcenter Skyrise Prepares for The Future Of Fl Ying Cars

Are helicopters yesterday’s Model T? Paramount Miami Worldcenter developer Dan Kodsi, thinks so and is preparing for the future of urban aviation by making modifications to the rooftop design of the tower in order to accommodate a 5,000- square-foot Skyport atop his new 60-story downtown Miami high-rise.

A veteran developer, with a master in urban planning and background as a recreational pilot, Kodsi has built more than 6,000 units over the course of his 30-year career. Today, he is readying his state-of-the-art future-forward residential tower, with the ability to convert its rooftop into a Skyport for vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft, also known as passenger drones, or what some may call “flying cars.”

“The future of transportation is here within the next 10 to 15 years and urban aviation is closer to reality than you might expect. The flying vehicles will use airspace to alleviate transportation congestion and traffic on the ground for quicker daily commutes, and cleaner air around the world. These vehicles are more like a helicopter, but much quieter, run electronically and are environmentally friendly,” said developer Dan Kodsi. “Paramount Miami Worldcenter prides itself on its amenities and high-tech features. While the industry still has many regulatory hurdles to clear, we are excited to be at the forefront of urban aviation with what can one day be the first residential Skyport in Miami.”

One day, Paramount Miami Worldcenter residents could seamlessly ride a sleek glass elevator up to the luxury tower’s private rooftop, where they could be picked up or dropped off by on-demand aircraft.

“Imagine traveling from Miami to Palm Beach—a drive that takes the better part of two hours— in about 30 minutes. That stop-and-go traffic to the suburbs could become a burden of the past for Paramount residents,” said Kodsi.

Ever since Uber Elevate announced it would begin testing its urban air taxis in Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Dubai in 2020, a galactic style race erupted from tech, aircraft manufacturers and automakers both domestic and international to develop flying cars. Including the German developers of Volocopter and Lillium, Airbus’s Vahana, the Chinese developers of Ehang 184 and Terrafugia, Google’s Kitty Hawk Flyer and Workhorse Surefly.

Paramount – located inside the massive Miami Worldcenter project in the heart of downtown Miami – is more than 70 percent sold with $400 million in sales of their 500+ city- and bay-view residences. Units range in size from 1,180 to 2,350 square feet, with prices starting at $750,000. It has more than 50 nationalities represented among its buyer pool.

Construction crews from general contractor of record, CoastalTishman, have already reached the 47th floor of vertical construction. Paramount is on course for its top off in summer 2018, and building completion anticipated for spring 2019.

The only residential tower currently for sale within the massive 27-acre mixed-use Miami Worldcenter site, Paramount has made international headlines with its Upper Deck, which will debut as the largest amenity deck in the U.S., spanning 90 feet above downtown Miami featuring an extraordinary array of action-packed amenities that includes the country’s first outdoor soccer field to be featured in a high-rise residential development; two tennis courts; multiple resort-style pools; lush parks and spa baths among others.

Located in the heart of Miami’s downtown at the crossroads of culture, entertainment, art and fine dining, residents will enjoy an unparalleled location just an elevator ride away from Miami’s waterfront and most celebrated cultural and entertainment landmarks such as the Adrienne Arsht Center, Pérez Art Museum Miami, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, and the American Airlines Arena. Also within Miami Worldcenter is the nearby proposed Marriott Marquis Miami Worldcenter Hotel and Expo and All Aboard Florida’s Miami Grand Central Station, which will allow residents direct service to Orlando in three hours, as well as connectivity to the Metro Mover and nearby Miami International Airport.

Group’s new jewel in the crown empowers guests with innovation and pays tribute to Singapore’s heritage with art and design

Park Hotel Group, one of Asia’s leading hospitality companies revealed the first look of its flagship hotel Grand Park City Hall. Located on Coleman Street in the heart of Singapore’s Civic District, the luxury hotel is in the final phase of its transformative masterplan which is scheduled to complete by the third quarter of 2018.

The 343-room Grand Park City Hall hotel including its modern European Tablescape Restaurant & Bar are a part of Park Hotel Group’s upcoming mixed-use lifestyle precinct comprising City Hall Square, a new dining, shopping and entertainment destination that is set on the conservation site of St. Gregory Place.

When completed, guests to Grand Park City Hall will expect to enjoy greater convenience, control and personalized service all within the reach of the mobile phones in the palm of their hands. Guests can also look forward to enriching experiences within the contemporary interiors, which are decorated with art and design inspired by Singapore’s history.

“Grand Park City Hall, our new jewel in the crown, is a spectacular juxtaposition of modern technology and heritage-influenced art and design. The hotel is a testament to our commitment to deliver exceptional hospitality and travel experiences for our guests by empowering them with digital innovation and giving them a sense of place through our inspiring interiors,” said Allen Law, Chief Executive Officer, Park Hotel Group.

Greater Convenience, Control and Personalized Service

Today, Grand Park City Hall is piloting the mobile application that allows guests to skip the queue and front desk following a digital check-in and go straight to their room with their digital key. Industry regulations and practices currently require hotel guests to provide their personal identification documents such as passports at hotel front desks even after digital check-in. With the new Grand Park City Hall application, this authentication process can be easily completed by guests taking a selfie on their mobile phones.

In addition, solving one of the worst frustrations travellers have with multiple light switches in hotel rooms, the same phone application can enable guests to adjust in-room lighting and climate cooling. Similarly, simple requests for extra amenities such as towels and bottled water are made simpler with a few buttons.

Guests can also connect with the hotel’s guest services manager directly who will provide their attention and personalised assistance based on feedback and enquiry.

Travel Experiences Enriched with History and Contemporary Art

Influenced by Grand Park City Hall’s historical location, the new hotel interiors and spaces are presented with a mix of neoclassical designs blended with clean lines to create a balance between the old and new. Incorporating Peranakan pattern tiles, vintage statement pieces and artwork of local landmarks, the interiors celebrate the modern and contemporary city with mirrored imagery that evokes the sensation of a futuristic world; a counterpoint to the rich past and multiplicity of cultures of Singapore.

Conceptualised by world-renowned firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, the hotel interiors also feature an art collection that recounts the history of Singapore. Artist, illustrator and photographer Aubrey Kurlansky, who is based in Singapore, curated the modern art that captures the rich medley of cultural influences that have contributed to the making of the city nation today.

As part of the restoration work, Grand Park City Hall will also feature new architectural design elements including an updated driveway and entrance. A new majestic bronze arch gate now fronts the entrance to the hotel’s colonial-style façade, symbolic of the welcoming and attentive service that awaits guests as they step through the doors.

New Rooms and Facilities

Following the completion of 186 brand new rooms, the final phase of transformation will feature an additional 157 guest rooms and suites, a new gym facility, a new swimming pool as well as a new rooftop garden event space. Located on the top floors of the hotel, a collection of contemporary suites offers private gardens along with in-built Jacuzzis. Six pairs of interconnecting child-friendly rooms are specifically designed with families in mind, complete with colourful bean bag chairs, an activity desk, a magnetic blackboard wall and rolling paper for kids to express their creativity. Crystal Club guests will also have access to the new Crystal Club Lounge with its associated privileges.
