Centara Helps to Safely Restart International Tourism in Asia

0

Centara Ceysands Resort & Spa Sri Lanka selected to take part in the “Airport Opening – Pilot Project”, welcoming charter groups from a series of key source markets.

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, is playing a key role in helping to restart the Asian tourism industry, after its popular beachfront retreat on Sri Lanka’s stunning southwest coast was selected to take part in an innovative new initiative to safely reopen the island to inbound visitors.

Under by the Sri Lankan government’s “Airport Opening – Pilot Project”, Centara Ceysands Resort & Spa Sri Lanka will be able to welcome guests from a select number of key markets – initially Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan – as part of a travel bubble arrangement. Visitors will be welcomed on a limited number of direct charter flights from these countries, and escorted safely and securely straight to the resort, where they will benefit from a reduced quarantine period – down from 14 to seven days.

During this time, guests will be able to enjoy the resort’s full range of facilities, including world-class dining, water sports, wellness and much more, as well as being permitted to visit tourist sites and shops.

This is another example of how Centara Hotels & Resorts is helping to lead Asia’s tourism industry out of lockdown. The company is already participating in the Thai government’s “Alternative State Quarantine” programme, which allows inbound visitors to arrive safely in Thailand with a two-week stay at Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel Bangkok.

The company also recently unveiled a series of compelling offers at its island resorts in the Maldives, which promote safe and responsible inbound tourism from key markets able to travel, such as the Middle East, Russia and India.

Every Centara property worldwide has implemented the “Centara Complete Care” programme, which was developed in partnership with Ecolab and SGS and includes an extensive series of health and hygiene protocols.

The creation of travel bubbles is the first step in enabling Asian destinations to safely restart their tourism industries, in the wake of the global pandemic Centara is ready to work with governments across the region to enable the resumption of cross-border travel in a safe manner.

A series of attractive promotional rates and packages are available at Centara’s hotels and resorts. For more information, please visit centarahotelsresorts.com/special-offers.

Splendido Mare by Design Reviving The Alluring Spirit of Portofino

The Making of ‘The Mare’

Splendido Mare, a Belmond Hotel, Portofino, is set to re-open in April 2021 following a complete renovation by Paris design agency, Festen Architecture; the first to be renovated under LVMH ownership. The opening of ‘The Mare’ revives the timeless allure of Portofino, embraced within a charming guesthouse.

“We like to work on the transformation of classical spaces – delving into a storied past to conceptualise its future. For Splendido Mare, we are cherishing its humble beginning as a guest house for fisherman and the cinematic setting of Portofino. The redesign evokes a stylish home where contemporary and vintage pieces co-exist to provide a timeless feel.

“We want guests to feel comfortable, at ease but also feel the historical spirit, and we want them to feel the coherence we try to create between the design of the hotel and its surroundings,“ told Charlotte de Tonnac – Co-Founder, Festen Architecture.

NAUTICAL NOTES

Detailed references to the harbour’s nautical history can be found throughout the property, each of the 14 rooms and suites feature locally sourced and hand-varnished wood, traditionally used in the fishing and sailing boats that dot the harbour. Rope patterns are woven into the marquetry of the headboards, handcrafted by renowned textile designer Véronique de Soultrait.

The nautical knot is the emblem of the hotel and is referenced through detailed touchpoints from the bespoke designed glassware and crockery and the individual room keys. The 7,000 terracotta tiles, handmade by local Ligurian craftsmen and laid in the restaurant, feature the undulation of the water to create a feeling of walking on the sea.

COLOURS OF LIGURIA

The traditional Ligurian colours of the harbour buildings are found in a palette of amber, terracotta and sea green, used to accent the archways and ceilings. The pastel colours are symbolic of the region and have been used to decorate the facades and window shutters for generations. The design of the wooden floor is inspired by the church of San Giorgio in the town.

The bathrooms are designed to create a calming sanctuary, inspired by the neighbouring ‘Santa Margherita’ beach cabins, white and yellow geometric tiles form bold striped walls enhanced against a pure white marble floor.

MID-CENTURY MODERN

Mid-Century modern Italian furnishings celebrate the iconic 1950s era that defined Portofino’s glamorous history and an important time for Italian design. Each guestroom features authentic antiques including fruitwood armchairs by Paolo Buffa and Gio Ponti – selected for their graphic and joyful style.

Walnut armchairs by Ulrich Guglielmo and table lamps by Oscar Torlasco create a sense of welcoming nostalgia, especially for many Italians who grew up with similar pieces in their family homes.

One of the suites is inspired by Ava Gardener who personifies mid-century glamour and was a frequent visitor to the guest house when filming ‘The Barefoot Contessa in 1954 with Humphrey Bogart.

RELAXED SOPHISTICATION

Rooms have been named to reflect each element of the design inspiration, with La Marea (tide), Fioco (jib), Gozzo and Riva (boats) in reference to the nautical heritage; La Baia (bay), Aurora (new dawn), Libeccio (southwesterly wind) and Tramontana (northerly wind) in reference to the surrounding beauty and natural phenomena that shape the bay and geography of the area.

Blending references of the past with timely relevance, Festen has combined traditional craftsmanship, reinterpreted in contemporary ways, alongside antique objects and custom-made furnishings. Every detail has a sense of place, with all materials locally sourced and handmade including Carrara marble in the bathrooms and slate on the terraces. The furnishings are layered with soft Italian fabrics by Loro Piana and Rubelli and the wall lamps are from Murano Glass.

ART & FASHION

Fashion designer, Arthur Arbesser, has been commissioned to design a stylish attire to reflect the detailed design elements. Recognised by Vogue and LVMH as an emerging talent in fashion, Arthur is passionate about creating timeless pieces that celebrate the destination.

In order to create an overall aesthetic of relaxed sophistication, Arthur has created elegant, mid-century modern silhouettes for the uniforms, working with geometric patterns, nautical detailing and botanical references from the national park.

A curated art collection includes specially commissioned pieces by Italian artist, Gabrielle Cappelli, renowned for his modernist simplicity and an uncomplicated allure that he applies to his practice, matching the timeless elegance of Portofino. Cinematic photography and abstract pieces by Ligurian artists have been selected for their portrayal of the destination and its iconic history and landscape.

Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort Wins Marine Conservation Honour at Tat UK’s Responsible Thailand Awards

0

Chic and sustainable retreat recognised by Tourism Authority of Thailand for its ongoing efforts to preserve the pristine ecosystems of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi National Park and help combat climate change.

Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort, the chic and sustainable retreat, is excited to announce that it has been recognised once again for its environmental efforts. The resort was selected as the Marine Category winner in the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) UK Responsible Thailand Awards, for its ongoing efforts to preserve the ocean and contribute to a cleaner planet.

This prestigious title was recently presented to Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort by the TAT’s UK office in a “Virtual Responsible Thailand”. This marks the latest in a series of important honours achieved by the property in recent years, many of which are in relation to its conservation projects.

Sustainability is woven throughout the destination’s entire operations. A guardian of the sea, Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort has introduced a wide range of preservation projects, including mangrove planting, coral propagation, fish breeding and release programmes, coastal clean-ups and community outreach programmes. These are driven by a resident marine biologist at the Marine Discovery Centre, a purpose-built facility that serves as an educational hub for the entire region.

Led by a resident marine biologist, the resort’s Marine Discovery Centre is an important educational hub.

The onsite PADI dive centre is engaged in the UN’s Green Fins project, which is dedicated to preserving the area’s delicate biodiversity through coral replanting and other projects. A clownfish adoption programme allows guests to pay to adopt their own “Nemo”, with the proceeds being used to fund other important projects.

Visitors can also take part in a series of eco-sensitive excursions and off-the-beaten-track tours, such as sea kayaking, mangrove tours, cave explorations and visits to coastal villages. And of course, Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort has eliminated single-use plastic throughout its operations.

“We are thrilled to win the Marine Category at the TAT UK’s Responsible Thailand Awards. The issue of conversation is very close to our hearts; our Marine Discovery Centre has enabled us to ramp up our environmental programmes and engage with guests, local residents and school children to protect the underwater eco-systems of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi National Park. The world’s oceans play a huge role in absorbing CO2, so our initiatives can also play an important role in protecting the entire planet from the effects of climate change,” commented Chao Treenawong, General Manager, Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort.

Opened in 2018, the Marine Discovery Centre at Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort is an interactive hub that features indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, visual displays showcasing the region’s diverse sealife, a video room and aquariums, providing a fascinating window into the vibrant undersea world.

The TAT UK’s Responsible Thailand Award is the latest in a series of important accolades achieved by Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort.

It was awarded “3 Leaves” by the Green Leaf Foundation, has been recognised by the Thai Hotels Association as a “Plastic Free Resort”, and received the “Green Leaf Certificate” for successfully promoting conservation awareness within the travel and tourism industry. Most recently in September 2020, the resort was certified as being carbon neutral by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization.

The Veranda, a Luxurious Green Oasis in South Jakarta

0

Like a green oasis in the desert, The Veranda is such a serenity and freshness in the midst of a dynamic, bustling, crowded, and polluted metropolitan city. There, the hustle and bustle of Jakarta traffic seems being swallowed up by a fresh green garden that gives peace.

This apartment project, which was built in Lebak Bulus area, South Jakarta, offers a vacation like daily life. You don’t need to go to Ubud, Seminyak, or Jimbaran to enjoy the sunrise or sunset amidst lush gardens and colorful flowers.

This is one of the few residences in Jakarta, where you can feel the luxury of nature, with complete and convenient facilities without having to leave your apartment.

This area is completed with 47 types of facilities. There are putting green, sunken seater by the pool, meditation area, dancing studio, kids gymnastic & trampoline park, library & co-working space, watter fall among others interesting facilities. It is just right to say that it’s a place to come home in comfort, after a fatigued day in the capital.

“We understand how to create luxury through landscaping. Our concept, The Veranda focuses on health and luxury, and a relaxing green oasis,,” said Tomoaki Kinoshita, the Director of  PT Jakarta Indah Makmur, a representative of Nishitetsu in Jakarta, a well-known Japanese urban development company that managed The Veranda project with PT Pulauintan Development.

And he also said the biggest selling point of The Veranda is the pleasure of “The Mindset Journey”, where consumers are invited to feel as if they are relaxing in a Bali resort.

Explaining the natural conditions of the area, Ir. Indawansani, a climatologist from BMKG, said that the Lebak Bulus area is located on the outskirts of Jakarta’s “Hot Island/Pulau Panas”. Pulau Panas or Pulau Bahang is a term introduced by Luke Howard in the 1810s, referring to a metropolitan area that is hotter than the surrounding (rural) area.

The hot air temperature in urban areas is partly due to the highly active lifestyle. Currently, explained Indawan, it was caused by traffic, glass reflection from high-rise buildings which produces a greenhouse effect, plus air pollution which at the same time causes the low visibility (blurry).

Indawan continued to explain that the Lebak Bulus area has a higher comfort index than the city center or the West and North Jakarta areas. Lebak Bulus air quality is even comparable to Bogor, as there are still many trees that really help to lower the temperature and provide clean and fresh air. With relatively clean air quality, it is no surprise that the sunset and sunrise look brighter in this area.

Future Transportation Access

Meanwhile, Elis Sumarto, Sales & Marketing Associate Director of The Veranda said that, in living conditions under a pandemic like today, where awareness of health is a key element in everyday life, The Veranda is a valuable residence that allows you to enjoy a healthy life in Jakarta.

Each unit at The Veranda is designed with high ceilings that provide optimal comfort and natural health. Each room has natural light and free air circulation. The various comforts offered by The Veranda  at the same time support a flexible productive life in today’s lifestyle and the requirement to work from home.

Regarding the project location offered by its business partner, Pulauintan, Nishitetsu believes that Lebak Bulus also has a location advantage in terms of transportation access, in addition to the advantages of its natural freshness. Similar to the Japanese lifestyle, they believe that there will be more Jakarta modern society who utilize mass transportation to avoid traffic congestion in metropolitan city.

“The project location is very convenient for customers because it has very good transportation access, such as the Outer Ring Road and the Lebak Bulus MRT Station,” said Elis.

Nishitetsu has more than 100 years of experience in TOD development in Japan. “Therefore, we are happy to be able to join this project,” continued Elis.

Two Property Masters Collaborative Project

The Veranda, a luxurious apartment with resort nuance, is a collaborative project between Nishitetsu and Pulauintan. Nishitetsu is a well-known developer in Japan who has more than 100 years of experience..

While Pulauintan, a contractor company that was founded in 1990, has experience in developing many office buildings, hotels, malls, apartments, warehouses, factories, hospitals, and others.

Nishitetsu is a business group from Japan that was founded in 1908. This business group is in charged for about 90 companies in various sectors. Starting from transportation, international logistics, real estates (offices, residential and commercial properties), retails, and hotels, to entertainment venues.

Starting an overseas expansion since 2015, Nishitetsu has developed in various countries. Apart from Indonesia, Nishitetsu also expanded to Vietnam, Thailand, and the United States.

Kinoshita said that “We understand that the current market is hard due to Covid-19, but we would like to provide our customers with a bright future by concentrating our wisdom,” he concluded.

Porsche Extends the Taycan Model Range

0

With the new Taycan, Porsche is launching the fourth variant of its first all-electric sports saloon. The new model lines up alongside the Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan 4S. It features rear-wheel drive and is available with two sizes of battery: with the standard Performance Battery, the new entry-level model delivers up to 300 kW (408 PS) in overboost mode with Launch Control; this increases to an output of up to 350 kW (476 PS) with the optional Performance Battery Plus. Nominal power is 240 kW (326 PS) or 280 kW (380 PS) respectively.

As the youngest member of the model family, the Taycan includes, right from the start, the new features introduced in the other versions at the model year changeover. For instance, the Plug & Charge function enables convenient charging and payments without the need for cards or an app: as soon as the charging cable is plugged in, the Taycan establishes encrypted communication with the Plug & Charge-compatible charging station. The charging process then starts automatically. Payments are also processed automatically.

As on the other variants, optional equipment includes a colour head-up display and an on-board charger with a charging capacity of up to 22 kW. With Functions on Demand (FoD), Taycan drivers can purchase various additional convenience or assistance functions as required.

Alternatively, they are able to book them for a limited period. This works after the vehicle has been delivered as well as for the sports car’s original configuration. Activation online means that it is not necessary to visit the workshop. Currently, this is possible for the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), Power Steering Plus, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Porsche InnoDrive functions.

Choice of two batteries

A single-deck Performance Battery with a gross capacity of 79.2 kWh is fitted as standard. The two-deck Performance Battery Plus is available as an option. Its gross capacity is 93.4 kWh. Range, in accordance with WLTP, is up to 431 or up to 484 kilometres respectively.

The Taycan accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, whichever battery is specified. Its top speed is also 230 km/h in both configurations, while its maximum charging capacity is up to 225 kW (Performance Battery) or up to 270 kW (Performance Battery Plus). This means that both batteries can be charged from five to 80 per cent SoC in 22.5 minutes and that power for a further 100 kilometres is achieved after only five minutes.

Innovative electric motor and dynamic performance

Impressive acceleration, tractive power typical of sports cars and outstanding continuously available power – the new point of entry to the Taycan model line-up also features these strengths.

The permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle has an active length of 130 millimetres and is therefore the same length as the one fitted to the Taycan 4S. The pulse-controlled inverter on the rear axle operates at up to 600 amps.

In addition to the permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle, the drive architecture also includes a two-speed transmission. Just as with its siblings in the model range, its highlights include intelligent charging management as well as exemplary aerodynamics. With a Cd value from 0.22, its aerodynamics make a significant contribution to its low energy consumption and therefore its long range. Maximum recuperation power is 265 kW.

Purist exterior design with Porsche DNA

With its purist design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new era. At the same time, it retains the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. From the front, the electric sports car looks particularly low and wide, with highly contoured wings. Its silhouette is shaped by its sporty roof line sloping downward to the rear, while its highly sculpted side sections are also characteristic.

The sleek cabin, the strikingly drawn-in C-pillars, and the pronounced shoulders of its wings result in a sharply emphasised rear, typical of the brand. These features are complemented by innovative elements such as the glass-look lettering for the Porsche logo in the rear light bar.

Distinguishing features of the Taycan within its model family include aerodynamically optimised 19-inch Taycan Aero wheels and black anodised brake callipers. The front apron, side sills and rear diffuser in black are the same as those on the Taycan 4S. LED headlights are fitted as standard.

Unique interior design

The cockpit of the Taycan signalled the start of a new era in 2019 with its clear structure and completely new architecture. The free-standing curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard. This places a clear focus on the driver axis. Other elements include a central 10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional display for the front passenger.

As standard, the Taycan comes with a partial leather interior as well as front comfort seats with eight-way electrical adjustment. The car features two luggage compartments: 84 litres at the front, and up to 407 litres at the rear.

The Taycan is also the first Porsche model available with an entirely leather-free interior. Interiors made from innovative recycled materials underscore the sustainable concept of the electric sports car.

Centrally networked chassis systems

Porsche uses a centrally networked control system for the Taycan chassis. The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in real time. Both the standard steel-spring suspension of the Taycan and the optional adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology are supplemented by the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) electronic damper control system.

The adaptive air suspension is also equipped with a Smartlift function. This allows the Taycan to be programmed so that it raises its ride height automatically at certain recurring locations such as road humps or garage driveways. The Smartlift function can also actively influence the vehicle’s height on motorway journeys and can adjust the vehicle’s ride height for the best possible compromise between efficiency and driving comfort.

The Taycan is equipped as standard with six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed-calliper brakes at the front and four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed-calliper brakes at the rear. The internally vented brake discs are 360 mm diameter at the front and 358 mm at the rear. The brake callipers have a black anodised finish.

A further option is the high-performance Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB). Its discs have a diameter of 410 mm and 365 mm front and rear.

Successful year for the Taycan

Porsche has made a successful start to the all-electric age, delivering just over 20,000 Taycans to customers worldwide in 2020. In Norway, the Taycan currently accounts for 70 per cent of all Porsche models sold, and the start of November saw the one thousandth Norwegian Taycan customer receive their car as Porsche sales in Norway have more than doubled.

The electric sports car has already received around 50 international awards, above all in its principal markets of Germany, the US, the UK and China. The new rear-wheel drive Taycan also holds the Guinness World Record™ for the longest drift with an electric car, having been driven sideways non-stop for exactly 42.171 kilometres.

The first rear-wheel drive Taycans will make their way to dealerships from the middle of March 2021. Prices in Germany start from 83,520 euros including value-added tax.

Partnering with the Kereta Api Wisata, Aman Indonesia has introduced a new train itinerary: Journey Through Java with Aman. Transporting guests across Java, the once-in-a-lifetime experience begins in Jakarta Gambir station, where the bustle of the vibrant city soon becomes a distant memory.

Amanpulo, Philippines – Villa

After a warm Javanese welcome into the station’s exclusive lounge, guests embark on a panoramic seven-hour journey through Central Java where temples turn to tree-lined hillsides. With a new story appearing around every corner, guests will enjoy an exquisite Aman breakfast and lunch served on board, surrounded by the opulence of one’s private carriage.

On arrival into Yogyakarta, guests will experience three-nights at Amanjiwo, fully immersing themselves in the resort’s sacred roots. Just two-kilometres away, the temple of Borobudur – a 9th-century marvel with 504 life-size Buddha statues – reveals ancient secrets, while trekking through the lush surrounding landscapes to local villages.

Throughout their time at Amanjiwo, each guest will receive daily breakfast and one special Amanjiwo experience. Choose from a traditional Makan Malam degustation dinner served in the grand colonial restaurant, a private Aman picnic on the banks of the Progo river or enjoy sunset martinis overlooking dramatic vistas of the Menorah Hills.

Amanpuri, Thailand – Accommodation, Villa 47, 6-Bedroom Ocean Villa, Outside View

Journey Through Java is available from 21-24 January, continuing monthly on select dates throughout 2021.

Restorative Sleep Retreat at Amangiri
18-21 February 2021

Give the gift of improved sleep through reconnecting with the mind, body and soul at Amangiri with the new Restorative Sleep Retreat. Carefully developed by Sleep Specialist Dr. Micheal Breus, the programme combines a science-based approach with Aman’s long history of innovation in wellness, in one of the world’s most secluded settings.

Following a pre-arrival assessment and a one-on-one interview with Dr. Breus, guests will be assigned a Chrono-type; a genetically pre-determined sleep schedule, which will serve as the basis for the rest of the retreat.

Personalised schedules will be presented every morning and include daily 60-minute morning yoga classes, therapeutic cold-water plunges and several informative sessions and lectures covering topics such as Sleep Genetics and creating the perfect sleep environment.

Learn how to indulge in everyday activities, including a way to enjoy caffeine and alcohol without affecting ones’ sleep; experience a tailor-made, practitioner-led wake-up routine every day and spend free time exploring the soul-soothing wilderness of Amangiri. Highly informative, leave Amangiri as a sleep expert, knowing all the secrets to a restful night.

This retreat includes three night’s accommodation at Amangiri, full board including breakfast, lunch, dinner, a healthy mini bar and non-alcoholic beverages as prescribed for the programme, in addition to return airport transfers from Page airport in Arizona.

Aman Tokyo, Japan – Aman Spa Swimming Pool

Misogi Retreat at Aman Tokyo
Available until 18 December 2021

Train the body and mind, purify the spirit and find your own satori (awakening) in the three-night/four-day Misogi Retreat at Aman Tokyo. Combining bodywork, nutrition, mindfulness and meditative practices this retreat provides guests with a deep inner transformation, and supports overall wellbeing for a longer, healthier life.

To train the mind, guests will take part in daily yoga and breathing exercises and Tao meditation and mindfulness training to gain stronger control over the emotions.

Additional lessons are available, including Koudo: a traditional Zen practice that uses incense to help tune into the senses, the human spirit and nature; Shakyo, a Sutra hand-writing meditative practice; traditional Japanese mindfulness lessons in flower arranging, Batto practice, calligraphy and a Japanese tea ceremony at the Dojo (traditional Japanese practice studio).

Guests will receive advice on how to bolster the immune system with a Traditional Chinese Medicine consultation and Acupuncture sessions in order to train the body. Throughout the retreat guests will also be encouraged to use the hydro-facility in the extensive Aman Spa – the largest hotel spa in the city – to soak in a warm Japanese bath, which lowers the blood sugar and flushes out toxins.

Paired with cold shower bursts to improve circulation, increasing the heart rate and stimulating the production of noradrenaline and beta-endorphins, this practice also helps to strengthen the mind.

To purify the spirit guests will also participate in a public Ogoma Ritual at Fukagawa Fudo temple. In line with the ethos of a new year and a fresh start, this ritual is performed to extinguish negative energies, detrimental thoughts and desires, and to make wishes and give blessings.

An ideal gift for those looking to reground themselves after a year of uncertainty, this three-night retreat includes full board, with each day offering a healthy breakfast and lunch with a smoothie, and wellness cuisine in the evening. Guests will also enjoy a daily healthy juice or tea, access to the in-room wellness minibar, late check-out and return airport transfers.
