Indonesian Children’s Football Coach Val Arnold Raharja Undergoing Coaching Academy Uefa B in Thuringia, Germany

In Support of Val, Football Legend Rochi Putiray Said to Seek Experience in Europe, the Key to Success for Indonesian Football Does Not Rely Solely on the Coaches But Also the Management

Children’s football coach Val Arnold Raharja “Dared” to take the rough educational road of football coach training by joining the UEFA level B coach academy in Thuringia, Germany. From 38 worldwide participants, Val is the only attendee from the Asian continent. This interesting story unfolded during Voxppshout Talks held on Monday afternoon, October 31, 2022, via IG Live platform entitled “Discussing Indonesian Football Coach: From Thuringia to Timika and Jakarta”.

Hosted by a sports photographer, Nick Hano as Host, Voxpshout Talks brought two guests, Val as future diploma holder of UEFA B and living football legend as well as coach Rochi Putiray.

This episode of Voxppshout Talks addressed many issues that’s been going around regarding the important role of a coach in ensuring the success of a football club or a national team. Not so long ago during the opening of license C football coach training, Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali sent a similar signal about how coaches have important roles in the advancement of Indonesian football. Another PSSI brass also said a similar thing; if the coach has excellent quality then our national football will continue to improve.

Seems like it is also the motivation behind Val’s determination to finance himself, lobbying the England FA so he could switch country destination for the next coach training, seeking information, and establishing correspondence with the DFB-UEFA up to his departure to the small city of Thuringia in Germany to get trained.

Living legend and football coach Rochi Putiray stated, “What is needed from a coach? Character and self respect, those are the most important things. Meaning coaches who are not easy to be told what to do, doesn’t mean that we’re defiant, no. But that could be what is currently happening with football in Indonesia, why we have only a few local coaches and plenty of foreign ones, perhaps because they’re not easy to control.”

“Players basically have talents, but left untrained, the players wouldn’t know what to do. That requires a coach to train and oversee, because coaches have experience or undergone training himself as a coach, they have the knowledge, therefore they are essential to the team. Other than coach being the key, the other important thing is management. National Football Management. We cater to player naturalization, should we also cater to management naturalization as well?”

When asked by the host, Nick, why going to Germany, Val who once trained children at Serpong FC and Sams Soccer Academy replied, “Because of Klopp, Hansi, Tuchel. The decision I made in January 2022At that time the last 3 Champions League winners are Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, and Hansi Flick. I also heard of the characters of German people who are straight, detail oriented and rarely give compliments.”

Further more, Val stated that at the beginning he used to have a hobby of following football statistics, following the development of Garuda Select, and inspired by coach Dani Suryadi who is now training the Como 1907 FC in Italy. As far as I know, he was the first person to take his license in England. The thought drove him into thinking why should only the players go there, if only coaches could go too (the best places) there would be more types of coaches who hopefully could contribute to the Indonesian football.
