A psychologist from the University of Indonesia, Dian Wisnuwardhani, M.Psi., stated that, “Beauty Anxiety as well as other mental health issues related to physical appearance may be triggered by different things, among which is childhood trauma, such as being teased or mocked by friends to a point that a person may suffer from body dissatisfaction, or even feeling ‘trapped’ by the prevailing body image around us and exposure from social media platforms.”

“In some cases, it would involve young women living in big cities in Indonesia where physical attractiveness is considered on the surface level. Whereby similar to aesthetic services, such a thing also requires some educative measures.”

Furthermore, Dian elaborated that as a start we can try to build positive affirmation and gratitude for what we have so that we can discover the positive sides and embrace our self-acceptance, in order to become a person with self-confidence.
