Subway® Expands Retail Footprint in Indonesia

Subway opens at Gambir Railway Station, the first restaurant in Indonesia’s busiest railway station

Subway®, one of the world’s largest restaurant brands and PT Sari Sandwich Indonesia, a subsidiary of Indonesia’s food & beverage (F&B) retailer, PT Map Boga Adiperkasa Tbk (MBA), whose parent company is PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAP) celebrated its one-year anniversary since opening the first restaurant in South Jakarta in 2021.

To mark the occasion, today the brand continued its expansion in the market by opening its first restaurant at Jakarta’s busiest railway station Gambir. Travelers are now able to conveniently enjoy freshly prepared and better-for-you food options in the new 70 square meter Subway restaurant.

Indonesia was Subway’s first market to introduce a development partnership as part of Subway’s plans to grow its presence in the Asia Pacific region. As a result of this initiative, PT Sari Sandwich Indonesia has steadily been opening restaurants to meet guest demand, with nearly 40 restaurants opened within the first year.

“It’s exciting to see how rapidly Subway has grown across Indonesia, and how enthusiastically guests have embraced the brand. The Asia Pacific markets continue to be a huge opportunity of growth for Subway and an essential part of our international growth strategy,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Subway, John Chidsey.

As MBA seeks to continue to open Subway locations in major cities in Indonesia and be more accessible to guests, it is constantly innovating to develop new ways to deliver better food and a better guest experience.

To mark the occasion, the brand continued its expansion in the market by opening its first restaurant at Jakarta’s busiest railway station Gambir.

“In the coming years, Subway Indonesia will continue to rapidly expand. We are enthusiastic to open not only in shopping malls but also in non-traditional locations including in rest area toll roads, train stations, and airports. It is essential for Subway to be accessible as a food option that guests can enjoy on their journey. Subway is now available at Terminal 3 Soekarno Hatta Airport and today in Gambir Railway Station, another busy travel hub, with the first Drive-Thru, also to open in October,” said President Director of PT Map Boga Adiperkasa Tbk., Anthony Cottan.
