AFTER several years of “clans pricing-war” among Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) provider, we could pull out an interesting conclusion about the war that is CDMA might meet its saturated market. It seems that CDMA cheaper rates and relatively inexpensive handset have lost its power to grab their new customers. In Indonesia, CDMA providers have to face their older brethren the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) providers, although some of them working on the same bandwidth too.
When we were getting bored with all their war, one of the youngest CDMA providers starts to flank the mobile telecommunication market with a new innovative strategy. On 2 November 2009, PT Smart Telecom launched its Blackberry services that work on CDMA band. Ossy Indra Wardhani, Department Head of Maketing Communication PT Smart Telecom, in Indocomtech 2009 at Jakarta Convention Centre said that as an innovative telecom provider, PT Smart Telecom trying to fulfil market demand on Blackberry.
“Our CDMA Blackberry has several advantages than others, such as faster internet connection that users can watch video streaming with no annoying disturbances,” she added.
It was the first CDMA Blackberry in Indonesia, while others work on GSM band. The first in Indonesia does not mean that it was the first in the world, recently US has been used to it for a long time. For Indonesian market, PT Smart Telecom offers Blackberry Curve 8330 and it is bundled in, packed with Smart number. Users can enjoy reliable unlimited internet service, thanks to Evolution Data Optimised (EVDO) data transfer system that provide speed of transfer up to 3.6 Mbps.
Blackberry users must be getting familiar with the new CDMA Blackberry, because of its shape same as the previous Curve series. There is no big difference on its outer look, it has 10,6 centimetres in length, 6,1 centimetres in width, and 1,5 centimetres in its depth. The gadget is working on CDMA dual band, 800 and 1900 megahertz, and supports CDMA2000 1xRTT and 1xEV-DO rev.0 for data transfer. It is equipped with 1150 mAh Li-Ion battery that powerful enough to deliver 4.33 hours talking time and about eleven days of standby time. A 320 x 240 pixels display will ensure that you have wider sight and comfort for browsing the Internet, messaging, or watching movie.
On the back cover, Blackberry implanted a 2.0 mega pixels camera with flash, digital zoom, and mirror to take self-picture, the camera also can be use to record a movie other than still image. Below the display lays some navigation tools. A hang up and receive call buttons, “go back” button, and menu activation button. In the middle of all button there is a trademark trackball to move its pointer. According to its name, there is soft QWERTY keypad in curve shape to carry out a comfortable while typing due to its ergonomics formation.
In its inside Blackberry Curve 8330 is powered with 312 MHZ processor, it is strengthen with 32 megabytes RAM and 96 megabytes ROM memories. All of them made the voguish handset able to reach and execute many multimedia application from internet or itself, such as video streaming, instant messaging–like Blackberry messaging, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, and Google Talk–, and engaging some popular social network sites, such as Facebook or MySpace.
In order to attract the market, Smart Telecom is wrapping her Blackberry with some good offering. The blackberry user could acquire the new CDMA Blackberry with affordable price only Rp 499 thousand a month by credit card purchasing. The tenor term only 12 months, and they will get full services feature from Smart Telecom without any additional charges, full internet services, such as video streaming, social networking, instant messaging, etc.
The other CDMA Blackberry has flip concept, although it has not been in Indonesia yet. Unlike Curve 8330, Blackberry Pearl Flip 8230 has feminine touch of elegance. Its shape as same as the Pearl 8130 that works on GSM bandwidth. Its dimension is very handy, only 10.1-centimetres length, 5-centimetre width, and 1.7 centimetres in depth. The handset weight is just 3.6 ounce and its loaded with an advance feature that we can comfortably connect to internet. It seem that new CDMA Blackberry user should wait little longer since we do not know when The Pearl will hit Indonesia.
A little clue from Ossy, int the future, Smart Telecom will offer others options directly from Research In Motion (RIM), Blackberry producer, “We will wait for others gadget options, but for sure, Smart Telecom has been set up several surprises conducting to the handset. Just wait and see.” She said.
Shocking news that shakes the mobile telecommunication business and to Blackberry users after it has been an icon in the latest lifestyle. After all, few days ago we still remembered that some providers are racing to catch new Blackberry user with Blackberry Gemini. Another option that claimed has better performance will attract the Blackberry user, who does not want an economical, faster and reliable communication service from telecommunication provider.
CDMA system has been marked as a second line in mobile communication yet, because of its coverage areas that serves only particular areas, lack in signal consistency, and voice clarity, and to name a few. Beyond its pros and cons in Indonesia, CDMA technology has superiority in data transfer and security than the GSM. Thus, we should see how the voguish gadget recently born and grows on another realm.
