Encourage the Growth of the Southeast Asian Beauty Industry and Thailand-Indonesia Collaboration

Thailand Cosmetics & Personal Care Business Matching

Thailand has had the most impressive growth in the beauty and cosmetics industry among Southeast Asian countries. Even when the Covid-19 pandemic was in full gear, this industry was able to persist and even experience a substantial expansion.

Similar events occurred in Indonesia, where many other business sectors experienced declines while the beauty sector experienced rapid growth. Many business owners who see potential in this burgeoning sector are currently concentrating on cosmetics and personal care products.

Recognizing the potential for mutually beneficial growth, both countries look to opportunities for collaboration and cooperation in the beauty industry. This effort was realized through the “Thailand Cosmetics & Personal Care Business Matching” event which was held at the Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, 25 Jul 2023.

Director of the Jakarta Thai Trade Center, Hataichanok Sivara, said that this activity was an important moment to help Thai exporters enter the Indonesian market. In addition, this event is also a golden opportunity to understand more about the Indonesian market, including the requirements for halal certification.

Sivara underlined that the Indonesian market has a significant opportunity for Thai beauty and personal care products. Indonesia is a prospective market, particularly now that a number of international goods and companies, like Unilever, P & G, and others, have established themselves here. He concurs that Indonesian consumers are constantly looking for something distinctive and novel, and the presence of the halal certification allows products from Thailand to catch their eye.

The main objective of this activity is to help Thai exporters establish contacts with Indonesian buyers so they may successfully join the market there and gain market share. Participating in the conference was the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) and Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) Ministry of Religious Affairs RI, whose goals were to assist Thai companies, particularly those in the cosmetics and personal care sectors, in better understanding Indonesian market demands.

Thai Trade Center Jakarta is part of the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Trade of Thailand. With the cooperation and collaboration between Thailand and Indonesia in the beauty sector, it is hoped that the growth of this industry can continue to grow and provide positive benefits for both countries and people in Southeast Asia.

The “Thailand Cosmetics & Personal Care Business Matching” event is a clear example that when countries work together and support each other, the economic and business potential of the region can be better realized. It is hoped that this step will pave the way for beauty industry players in Thailand and Indonesia to compete globally and strengthen Southeast Asia’s position as an innovative and quality beauty center.

The “Thailand Cosmetics & Personal Care Business Matching” event was attended by 18 cosmetic and personal care companies from Thailand, while from Indonesia, no less than 180 companies engaged in the same field attended and explored business opportunities and potential for cooperation.
