La Résidence Phou Vao Celebrates ‘Festival of Lights’ to Commemorate the End of Buddhist Lent

Created in the essence of good eating, the Buddhist Lent menu holds true to its cultural significance by creating balance through using only natural ingredients sourced within a 100km radius of La Résidence Phou Vao.

Chef Vesterbacka’s vibrant and varied feast brimming with exceptional flavours aims to inspire guests with detoxing ingredients such ginger, cinnamon and coix seed (also known as pearly barley), as well as protein-rich dishes like tamarind curry with fried tofu, spices and grilled pineapple for soulful replenishment.

True to Buddhist fare, the menu’s Lo Mai Gai, baked sticky rice in lotus leaves, is filled with mixed nuts and pickled olive leaves and guests can end their nutritious meal with the Nectar of Blessed Wisdom; a delectable dessert of stuffed rambutan with roselle and spice nectar.

Beverages will be offered cold and hot in an intriguing contrast, taken simultaneously to inspire the opposing interconnectedness of ‘yin and yang.’

Lasting Memories at La Résidence Phou Vao

In the town of Luang Prabang, each moment of the day brings different energies: by day, the city continues to its laidback ways, shrouded by the healing energy of Mount Phousi and by night, one can stroll along the glowing city in honour of the festivities, at this end of Buddhist Lent.

For those looking to retreat from it all, La Résidence Phou Vao, A Belmond Hotel makes the perfect hideaway. Perched above the legendary Hill of Kites, with its sculpted grounds giving way to an endless cloud forest, the hotel lies moments away from the old town Luang Prabang, where time sits still, surrounded by spectacular mountain vistas.
