Amankila Presents Cook the Island, a New Culinary Event Series

Located on a verdant hillside beneath Mount Agung with breathtaking views of the Lombok Strait, Amankila provides the ideal base for exploring East Bali. To celebrate the resort’s awe-inspiring natural surrounds and the island’s diverse cuisine, Amankila has launched a new culinary event series, Cook the Island, which will see the property welcome acclaimed international guest chefs across select dates in August, September and November.

Each visiting chef will collaborate with Cihan Beyit, Amankila’s Head Chef, to showcase their expertise across three days, enabling a unique discovery of the region’s delectable local produce.

The highly anticipated event series will commence with the first gastronomic celebration on 18-20 August, hosted by renowned UK-based chef Laurie Gear. Born in Lyme Regis, West Dorset, and raised by a baker and school cook, Chef Laurie Gear brings a wealth of experience and a passion for culinary excellence.

With a strong foundation and diverse experience working in renowned establishments such as three-Michelin starred The Fat Duck in Berkshire by Heston Blumenthal and the award-winning Noma in Copenhagen, Chef Gear prides himself on innovative modern European cuisine, featuring the best of the season’s ingredients foraged from his surroundings. He is currently at the helm of the prestigious one Michelin-starred restaurant, Artichoke in Buckinghamshire, which he opened alongside his wife in 2002.

Combining two-night’s accommodation, daily breakfast and roundtrip airport transfers, Cook the Island includes several culinary experiences. From an interactive cooking class and an al fresco lunch served at the Harvest Table, to exquisite dinners including a four-hands, five-course meal at The Terrace on the second night, guests will be invited to enjoy Amankila’s serene coastal setting while indulging in the finest island fare.

There will also be the chance to interact with the chef fireside in the cosy confines of The Library, discovering more about his culinary expertise within an informal setting while sampling a selection of refined canapés.

Cook the Island will continue in September and November with a visit from two equally distinguished guest chefs, Chef Tam Chudaree of one Michelin-starred Baan Tepa Culinary Space in Bangkok, Thailand, followed by Chef Angel Zapata of one Michelin-Starred Barrafina in London, UK.
