Bali in Focus: A New Festival Captures the Soul of the Island Through Photography

With the debut of FOTO Bali Festival, Nuanu Creative City invites global travelers to see the Island of the Gods through an entirely new lens.

There is a particular light that dances across the rice paddies of Bali at golden hour—soft, reverent, and ephemeral. For photographers, it’s nothing short of alchemy. Now, that light finds its ultimate expression in FOTO Bali Festival, an international celebration of photography launching this July 26 to August 17, 2025, in one of the island’s most visionary creative enclaves: Nuanu Creative City.

Tucked along Bali’s quieter west coast, Nuanu is far from the madding crowds of Seminyak or Ubud’s spiritual bustle. It is a sanctuary for artists, changemakers, and thinkers—a 44-hectare canvas where nature, innovation, and culture converge. And this year, it becomes the backdrop for one of Southeast Asia’s most anticipated new cultural happenings.

A Festival That Feels Like a Retreat

Themed around the concept of ‘LIFE’, the festival is more than a showcase—it’s a slow, thoughtful immersion into the stories that make us human. Through exhibitions, panel talks, and hands-on workshops, FOTO Bali Festival invites guests to pause and engage with the world as seen through the eyes of photographers from around the globe.

“Photography is a mirror and a window,” says Kelsang Dolma, Festival Director. “It reflects who we are while offering a glimpse into lives we’ve never lived. In Bali—where mythology, ritual, and visual storytelling have long been part of daily life—this dialogue feels especially powerful.”

Visitors can expect a curated blend of artistry and experience. Think open-air galleries framed by lush jungle, dialogues under starlit skies, and moments of unexpected connection over a shared image or story.
