Nippon Paint Donates Anti-Microbial Silver-Ion Coatings to Wisma Atlet Covid-19 Emergency Hospital

Covid-19 cases remain high in DKI Jakarta, with 818,764 cases reported by jakarta.go.id as of August 2, 2021. Thus, Budiyanto Setiawan, project manager from PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk as the hospital’s contractor said it is necessary to increase the capacity of Wisma Atlet Covid-19 Emergency Hospital in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk and Nippon Paint work together to coat the Tower 4, 5, and 7 of the hospital with 800 litres of Anti-Microbial Silver-Ion paint, covering a total area of 3,487 square meters.

“Nippon Paint once again donates for frontline health workers to be better protected, and this time for Wisma Atlet Covid-19 Emergency Hospital,” said Ramdhan Effendi, Sales Project Manager of Nippon Paint, in a statement released (5/8).

Meanwhile, Kurniawan Prabayudha, General Manager of Building Infrastructure Division from PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk, also expressed his appreciation and hoped that more frontline health workers could receive similar donation as the additional layer of protection against the Covid-19.

Coronaviruses, including the SARS-CoV-2, can live up to several days on surfaces such as metal, glass, wood, fabric, plastic, wall, and it is possible for a person to contract Covid-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or eyes. Therefore, eradicating viruses from surfaces could prevent the transmission to human.

As an anti-microbial, Silver-Ion from Nippon Paint works by (1) penetrating into the viruses or bacteria (2) inhibiting reproduction and metabolism (3) destroying the microorganisms. Silver-Ion is stable and therefore it remains effective as long as the integrity of the paint film is maintained and in good condition.

The Silver-Ion formula from Nippon Paint has been certified by Antimikrop R&D and Biocidal Analysis Laboratory (antimikrop.com.tr/) with 99.99% effectiveness in destroying bacteria and viruses that come into contact with Silver-Ion from Nippon Paint.

“Nippon Paint has always tried to push beyond the limits in the coating industry, developing sustainable products backed up with constant technological innovation. The coronavirus outbreak has prompted us once again to be highly innovative,” Ramdhan added.

When the Covid-19 outbreak was first reported, Nippon Paint donated anti-microbial paint to Hubei Hospital in China (March 2020), several hospitals in Thailand (October 2020), Sungai Buloh Hospital in Malaysia (November 2020), and Covid-19 wards at Tzu Chi Hospital Jakarta (March 2021).
