Introducing Egerton Crescent by Katharine Pooley

A sophisticated and classical private residence in Knightsbridge, London.

Internationally renowned interior designer Katharine Pooley is delighted to announce the completion of the 5-storey Egerton Crescent, a timeless and elegant home situated in Knightsbridge, London. Regarded as one of the finest addresses in Knightsbridge, the 4,090 sqm property is designed with a combination of classic and contemporary styling creating a fresh and sophisticated look. With its white stucco-fronted facades, cherry blossom-dappled shared garden around which the terrace curves and extensive private rear gardens, the property is a highly private oasis in the heart of the city.

Built in the 1830’s, Egerton Crescent was designed by the renowned English architect George Basevi (1794-1845). His love of the neoclassical design inspired the construction of the Grade II listed house with traditional bricks, iconic pilastered doorway and an ornamental balcony on the first floor with magnificent views over the private gardens of Egerton Crescent to which the house has access to. Katharine’s interior design concept has incorporated antiquated touches to reflect a characteristically classic feel, whilst exuding a warm, comfortable and welcoming ambiance throughout.

Katharine applied a peaceful, tonal design palette that combined white Portland stone with soft dove grey marble, polished plaster and natural fabrics including linens, silk velvets and woven textures throughout the house, giving it a sophisticated yet classic feel.

As first impressions are everything, Katharine updated a classic stucco façade with a high gloss black front door and contemporary plants. She has successfully created a classic contemporary design at Egerton Crescent with an eye on the smallest details to link the many different rooms and spaces. The property features a drawing room, five bedrooms including a master suite with opulent fabrics, a family snug, two studies, a dining room, a kitchen plan, a breakfast room and a garden room.

On the first floor, Katharine combined a lightly textured silk wallpaper with crystal wall lights and beautiful Versailles Parquet wood flooring in the magnificent drawing room which spans the full width of the house and overlooks the private gardens in the Crescent. A guilt chinoiserie mirror from the homeowner’s private collection, was placed in the room to make a statement.

“I like to balance an ornate antique piece, like the gilt chinoiserie mirror, with more modern and sculptural shapes,” says Katharine.

The master bedroom features a silver handwoven linen fabric to the bed alongside beautiful antique twisted glass table lamps which draw the eye and elevate the entire space. When designing the walk-in closet, Katharine put symmetry and flow above everything to achieve a sleek and generous space. For the bathroom, she used a light veined marble such as Statuary Oro to create a timeless and contemporary feel and to ensure the highest level of finish.

Katharine has also incorporated products and accessories into the design of Egerton Crescent with the use of silk woof drapes for window treatments, cladded a chimney breast with mirror and added a sculptural chandelier in the dining room for an elegant yet contemporary feel. In the kitchen, she pays a special attention to the use of crystal and nickel pendants to create glamorous lighting which instantly update the space. “I chose Farrow and Ball skimming stone for the cabinets to create an airy and serene feel,” adds Katharine. To give the family snug a perfect balance of comfort and elegance, she fashioned the room with deep and comfortable sofas.

To elevate the garden area, Katharine embraced the natural material of the building, sandstone paving to the back garden which mirrors the warmth of the property’s brick façade. She kept the garden rooms chic and minimal with classic detailing in shades of ivory, light grey and nickel.

“Successful design, as with life, is a delicate balance and one we seek to perfect daily,” says Katharine.
