Park Hyatt Brand Celebrates Debut of Park Hyatt Suzhou

The new luxury hotel delivers tailored experience inspired by the rich culture and history of the city

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today the opening of Park Hyatt Suzhou in east China. Located near freshwater Jinji Lake in the heart of Suzhou Industrial Park, the new hotel has been designed as a refined, contemporary version of a traditional Suzhou mansion that blends the architectural heritage, exquisite craftsmanship and artistic elegance of the city with vibrant modern design to deliver tailored luxury experiences.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of Park Hyatt Suzhou and announce the introduction of the exceptional, personalized Park Hyatt brand to this historic city, which remains the refined home-away-from-home for global connoisseurs in search of enriching experiences,” said Stephen Ho, President of Global Operations for Greater China, Hyatt.  “We are sincerely grateful to the hotel’s owner, Suzhou Gold Mantis Constructions Decoration, for their trust and support. With their rich experience in real estate management, we are confident that the hotel can bring a sophisticated experience to Suzhou.”

Steeped in more than 2,500 years of history, Suzhou was dubbed ‘Venice of the East’ by the Italian explorer Marco Polo after witnessing its picturesque canals and cobbled streets, dotted with stone bridges, temples, pavilions and pagodas. Under the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1911), Suzhou reached a peak of prosperity and numerous wealthy landowners built mansions with exquisitely designed gardens. Collectively, nine of the ‘Classical Gardens of Suzhou’ with such evocative names as the Humble Administrator’s Garden and the Mountain Villa with Embracing Beauty, are now a protected UNESCO World Heritage site.

Concept and design

Park Hyatt Suzhou was created by New York architectural firm, Kohn Pedersen Fox, which also created the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) extension in New York and Shanghai World Financial Center. Featuring interiors by multi-award-winning design firm, Hirsch Bedner Associates, the hotel has been conceived as the luxury lakeside home of a well-traveled, highly discerning guest.

Rather than a vast, open hotel lobby, guests are welcomed to Park Hyatt Suzhou via a series of elegant, residential-style vestibules, traversing tranquil courtyards with meticulous Asian-style landscaping and water features. Ancient Chinese design details such as the crab-apple blossom motif—historically used in imperial interiors to convey opulence and nobility—have been woven throughout the hotel to create a series of tasteful, luxurious spaces with a strong sense of locale.

Rooms

Park Hyatt Suzhou houses 178 elegant rooms, including 19 suites with separate living rooms, ranging in size from 50–173 square meters (538 to 1862 square feet). Inspired by the sleeping chambers of ancient Suzhou mansions where bedrooms would often lead to a terrace, spacious entry-level rooms feature a delineated, semi-private ‘verandah’ with living and dining/study areas framing the views and evoking outdoor living.

Modern interpretations of Chinese aesthetics abound in glass panels printed with brush-ink style blossoms, a wedding cabinet with circular ‘togetherness’ panels, horseshoe armchairs and wooden drum stools. Dominating the stylish marble bathroom with its deep-soaking tub and rainforest shower are distinctive dark frames on the shower doors and a crab-apple blossom shaped mirror.

Drinking and dining

With its trio of distinctive restaurants and bars led by executive chef Vincenzo Carbone, Park Hyatt Suzhou aims to be a gastronomic destination in the city, showcasing a vast variety of authentic local and global culinary experiences incorporating the finest and freshest of seasonal ingredients. Whether exquisite dining or casual grazing, a light lunch or leisurely afternoon tea, Park Hyatt Suzhou strives to offer exemplary cuisine, premium drinks and exceptional service in all its venues.

Xizhou Hall is the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, a veritable ‘Theater of Food’ with open kitchens providing live culinary entertainment, a ‘stage’ of seating, a ‘dressing room’ with a back-stage feel and private dining rooms themed around ancient theater crafts such as calligraphy, embroidery and engraving. The menu focuses on healthy locally-inspired Chinese and international fare, from a vast breakfast spread to succulent Beijing duck, as well as Huaiyang cuisine—the most prestigious style of Jiangsu cooking.

A modern interpretation of the traditional Ladies’ Court, the distinctively designed Living Room includes a feminine room with hand-painted murals and a striking space with a double-story ceiling dominated by slatted timber and an oversized lantern. Here, guests can enjoy light snacks, dim sum, an exquisitely presented afternoon tea and premium drinks throughout the day.

Accessed via a hidden entrance, the speakeasy-style Apartment 208 is a decidedly masculine affair clad in dark timber and leather in sultry shades. The venue specializes in prime steak, sustainable seafood and artisanal cold cuts and cheese paired with a curated selection of world-class whiskey, wine and Champagne. Entertainment is provided by a live band.

Events

With a prized location by Jinji Lake, sophisticated interiors, a renowned reputation for culinary excellence and solid experience in staging spectacular events, Park Hyatt Suzhou has its sights set on being the city’s preeminent location for exquisite events, big or small. The hotel offers five distinctive, flexible, well-equipped event venues spread over 2,400 square meters (25,800 square feet) and suitable for gatherings of anything from 12 to 900 attendees: a splendid pillar-free Ballroom with a 7.5-meter high (24-foot high) slatted timber ceiling and osmanthus-shaped chandeliers; a meticulously manicured Garden with a waterfall feature; Jinji Room with an adjacent terrace; the residential-style Drawing Room; and a Salon.

Wellbeing

As befits a Park Hyatt hotel, Park Hyatt Suzhou offers a host of luxurious facilities dedicated to improving guests’ wellbeing. On the ground floor, the 25-meter (82-foot) Pool offers a distinctly outdoor feel, while the adjacentFitness Center features the latest cardio and strength equipment with built-in TVs. Below on B1, The Spa is a serene space dedicated to improving guests’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing through personalized treatments within six tranquil treatment rooms themed around signature Suzhou flowers—the peony, camellia, plum blossom, osmanthus, orchid and magnolia.

“With Park Hyatt Suzhou, we are aiming to set a new standard for luxury in Suzhou,” said General Manager Au Yong Hin Yoong. “We plan to redefine personal luxury in the city through exemplary service, sophisticated art and design, exceptional food and drink and memorable events, and offer unique experiences to sophisticated global travellers. As we begin to see luxury travelers reemerge within the region, our underlying mission  to care for our guests remains true. Through wellbeing amenities such as our beautiful spaces, spa and health services and our balanced menus, we care for guests so they can be their very best.”

Guided by its purpose of care, Hyatt recently announced a multi-layered Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment to further enhance its operational guidance and resources around colleague and guest safety and peace of mind.
