General Manager Simon A. Fricker Steers Alila SCBD

Forward As Indonesia’s Top Urban Luxury Boutique Hotel

Alila SCBD Jakarta is pleased to welcome General Manager Simon A Fricker, whose vision to elevate the hotel’s brand of hip and contemporary luxury to the next level is backed by his over 20 years of management and leadership experience at ultra-luxury and modern lifestyle venues across three continents.

Born and raised in Switzerland, Simon’s journey into hospitality all began with his passion for cooking. This led him to graduate with a degree in culinary arts from culinary school in Switzerland, followed by a bachelor’s degree in hospitality from the elite Hotel school, Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern.

In 1998, Simon had the opportunity to relocate to the United States, where he commenced his hospitality career as a restaurant manager at Bar 10 and The Huntington at The Westin Copley Place in Boston. Over the next 12 years, he progressed through F&B management and executive leadership roles at St. Regis New York, Baur au Lac in Zurich, Gramercy Park Hotel in New York as well as Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas and Miami.

In 2013, Simon took on the role of General Manager at Le Méridien, Chicago – Oakbrook Center, which he successfully opened in mid-2014. The hotel was subsequently crowned “Hotel of the Year 2016 The Americas” by Marriott International. In 2017, Simon went on to become the opening General Manager of Nobu Hospitality’s first hotel, Nobu Hotel Riyadh, part of the prestigious “Leading Hotels of the World” collection in the Middle East.

Simon joined Alila SCBD Jakarta in May 2019, making his move to Asia during a very exciting time in the market. “With the help of my talented associates, I plan to further develop our personalised guest experience of contemporary luxury in this unique urban location of Central Jakarta,” says Simon. “We intend to position Alila SCBD Jakarta as the top urban luxury boutique hotel in Indonesia, and together with our world-class partners Hakkasan and New York celebrity chef Cedric Vongerichten, create a hip and sophisticated restaurant and bar scene for locals and visitors alike.”
