Savour the Exotic Taste of Sulawesi Cuisine

In Indonesia, Sulawesi is one of the four larger Greater Sunda Islands of Indonesia and the world’s eleventh-largest island which subdivided into six provinces: Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and North Sulawesi.  

As in most Asian countries, Indonesia food use a lot of seasoning and choosen spices. Our culinary journey will take you back through the Heritage and Cultural aspect of ancient Indonesia cuisine at Pago Restaurant. On May, we will be presenting special dishes from Sulawesi. The cuisine in Sulawesi varies with each region, but in general it tends to be spicy, and resembles the dishes that are popular throughout Indonesia.  

All parts of Sulawesi have their own special dishes, menu highlights will feature local cuisine favorites such as Coto Makassar is the traditional food of Makassar in South Sulawesi. It is a soup of sliced beef and tripe and served with ketupat (boiled rice packed in woven palm leaf). Sop Konro or beef rib soup is different from any other soup you may have tried before.  

Apart from the big chunk of beef and its massive bone, this soup rich of spices, such as black nuts and keluak. Toppa Lada is a traditional dish which originated from South of Sulawesi Province. Lada means Chilli, referring to the large red chilies that are used in this recipe. Pisang Ijo is another Sulawesi’s pride. Like pisang epe, it is made from ripe bananas that have been steamed and peeled. The bananas are then served in a plate and coated with sauce made from rice flour, coconut milk and vanilla powder. Lastly, ice cubes and red syrup are then added to make the heavenly taste.
