Jakarta, 28th August, 2012 – With the collaboration of the Mexican Embassy in Indonesia, Meliá Cabo Real in Mexico and Qatar Airways Gran Meliá Jakarta proudly presents their 2012 Mexican Food Promotion, which will be held at Café Gran Via from 10th to 23rd September.
Mexican cuisine is one of the world’s most established dating back thousands of years. Its heritage includes Mayan, Aztec, and Spanish influences but to understand Mexican cuisine more thoroughly one has to appreciate all the regional nuances as well. Not surprisingly in November 2010, Mexican cuisine was added to UNESCO’s list of the world’s “intangible cultural heritage”.
David Perry Gran Meliá Jakarta General Manager commented “perhaps no one is better suited to showcase the rich mosaic of Mexican cuisine than Chef Cesar Alejandro Canche Cauich who resides at Melia’s Cabo Real Hotel” and we are delighted to announce Chef Cesar Alejandro’s starring role in our festival. Perry went on to say that “whilst it could take a life time to study the richness of Mexican culinary culture and tradition, Chef Cesar Alejandro Canche Cauich will be introducing Jakarta residents to the most exciting array of both regional Mexican cuisine along with some of the most authentic staples.”
“Whilst TEX-MEX has taken off in the USA the focus at Gran Melia for the 2 weeks in September, which coincides with Mexican Independence Day, will be to present genuine Mexican cuisine at its very best. “A Mole to most westerners is simply a Mexican sauce. To a connoisseur Moles are complexity and alchemy combined and a whole range are known to the true Mexican culinary professional such as Chef Cesar Cauich. Genuine moles are rare to find outside Mexico as one requires a deep and thorough understanding of all the subtleties inherent in the fusion of the ingredients.
As for desserts with the word “chocolate” originating from Mexican and Aztec cuisines, chocolate not only plays an important part in the history of the Mexican, Aztec and Mayan civilizations, it will also feature beautifully in Gran Melia Jakarta’s bill of fare,” said David Perry. Perry went on to acknowledge “the most substantial support afforded this food festival from the Mexican embassy in Jakarta, Qatar airways and the Melia Cabo Real in Mexico without whose help the festival would not be possible.
While Chef Cesar is in Jakarta, Gran Melia Jakarta will have the opportunity to have the Mexican Culinary Expert to carry out a cooking demonstration on Saturday, 15th September 2012, featuring Mexican favourite dishes. Reservations can be made to 021-5268080 extension 2328 Cafe Gran Via, price Rp.450,000++/per person.
Café Gran Via provides special beverages and various dining offers. Opens daily, round-the-clock, located on the 2nd floor, serves an international á la carte menu, buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner.
